FIRST ANNUAL EMERGENCY MEDICINE SYMPOSIUM AT MANIPAL HOSPITAL

On November 15, 2007 The First Annual Symposium on Emergency Medicine took place at Manipal Hospital in Bangalore, the first of its kind for the prestigious Manipal University.

Dr. Raj Warrier, Vice Chancellor of Manipal University invited Dr. Lingappa Amernath and AAEMI to put on a symposium in Emergency Medicine for its residents and faculty. There were several well-distinguished speakers, including Dr. John McCabe (Past-President of ACEP and ABEM), Dr. Lingappa Amernath (President of AAEMI), Dr. La Lainia Secreti (Flight Surgeon and Lieutenant Colonel US Army), and Dr. George Abraham (Secretary and Treasurer of AAEMI), just to mention a few. It was well attended and plans for next year’s symposium are already in the works. Since the success of the symposium, Dr. Warrier has invited Dr. Amernath to take the lead in helping Manipal University in creating an Emergency Medicine Residency Program along with Dr.George Abraham, past secretary & treasurer of AAEMI and president of IIEMS. In addition to the symposium, exciting plans to implement a Medical Teleconferencing program are being developed.

AAEMI will be conducting a second symposium in 2008 and is looking for active participation from all our members.
