Fifth Annual Emergency Medicine and Disaster Preparedness Conference
Symbiosis Institute, Pune, India

Goal:
To review the clinical practice of Emergency Medicine and broaden the awareness of the vital role played by health professionals trained in Emergency Medicine during national and local tragedies.

Program Objectives:
Didactic lectures taught core concepts in Emergency care, and also broadened the awareness of the importance of health professionals trained in Emergency Medicine at key locations in the event of a disaster. In addition, there were six workshops designed to cover various practical aspects of Emergency Medicine.

At the conclusion of the conference, a participant would:

  • Demonstrate an understanding the role of Emergency Medicine in the delivery of medical care.
  • Comprehend the importance of standardizing Emergency Medicine.
  • Understand the role of Emergency Medicine in disaster preparedness and management of terrorism
  • Understand the role of Emergency Medicine internationally

Abstracts :
EMCON 2003 is pleased to announce its Research Forum that is dedicated to the presentation of original investigations in the field of Emergency Medicine. We welcome your submissions for presentation. The titles and text of all abstracts will be published online, at the EMCON website, and in the EMCON 2003 conference program guide. Monetary prizes will be awarded for the best oral and poster presentations.

North Shore - LIJ Health System, Emergency Services Dept. of Emergency Medicine, Long Island Jewish Medical Center of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System has played a critical leadership role in advancing the growth and recognition of Emergency Medicine as a specialty in India over the past decade. This conference will be sponsored by Emergency Services of NS-LIJ, which encompasses 11 emergency departments and 2 emergency medicine residencies. This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of North Shore-LIJ Health System with the American Academy for Emergency Medicine in India (AAEMI) and Society of Emergency Medicine, India (SEMI). North Shore-LIJ Health System is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor Continuing Medical Education for physicians. North Shore - Long Island Jewish Health System designates this Continuing Medical Education activity for up to 24 credit hours in Category 1 towards the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
