(1) 8:45 AM. The meeting convened with a welcome address by Dr. Kumar Alagappan. (2) 8:50 AM. Dr. Prakash Phulwani restated the AAEMI mission goals and objectives. The AAEMI members approved the minutes from the Feb 2001 inaugural meeting. (3) 9:00 AM. Dr. George Abraham presented the AAEMI by-laws, which was approved by the members. (4) 9:30 AM. Drs Phulwani & Alagappan opened nominations for officers and board of directors from the floor. The nominees briefly introduced themselves to the general body. (5) 9:45 AM. Dr. Phulwani briefed the members about the recent AAEMI trip to India including the EMCON 2001 conference in Coimbatore, the inauguration of the AAEMI library in Hyderabad and the meeting with SEMI at the Apollo hospital in Hyderabad . Dr. Jim Holliman (Secretary International ACEP and Chairperson SAEM International, from Penn State, Hershey) reminded members that he has acquired a collection of donated textbooks on EM that he will make available to anyone who will hand carry them or pay for mailing. Dr. Abraham stated that he could arrange free shipping of some of these texts to India. Dr. Holliman reminded us that he would also be at ACEP in Chicago to collect additional donated texts. Dr. Abraham introduced himself and his background in EMS. He briefed us on the disaster drill conducted in Coimbatore and the prominent role played by the visiting US paramedics. He also discussed plans to set up the EMS system for Apollo hospital in Hyderabad and Delhi. (6) 10:00 AM. Dr. Alagappan reviewed his ongoing efforts to develop an EM training program in Chennai and the state of EM in India. (7) 10:15 AM. Coffee Break. (8) 10:30 AM. Dr Rani Kumar gave her personal impressions of the EMCON 2001 conference. She emphasized the gratitude and receptiveness of the Indian audience and looked forward to returning in 2002. (9) 10:45 AM. Dr. Indrani Sheridan gave a pictorial presentation on her first visit to India. She introduced us to the need for emergency medicine in India, she reviewed the state of EM education in India and introduced the audience to the city of Hyderabad, site of the INTEM 2002 conference. (10) 11:00 AM. Dr. Alagappan presented the goals and objectives oft the INTEM 2002 conference. SEMI will be the host of the conference while AAEMI will serve as the co-host of the conference. Apollo hospital will jointly sponsor the INTEM conference with LIJ. (11) 11:30 AM. Dr. Phulwani expressed his delight at the turnout for the meeting and encouraged members to be more active in recruiting new members. (12) 11:45 AM. Members broke into groups to discuss the planning of the different facets of the INTEM 2002 conference. The different groups included a). Practice track led by Dr Mahadevan (Associate Chief, Stanford Unviversity) b). Academic track led by Dr Barsky (board member AAEM, Mt Sinai NY) c). Workshops led by Dr Kumar d). Research led by Dr Bernstein (Research Director, Beth Israel, Newark) e). EMS/disaster led by Dr Abraham and Dr Dario Gonzalez (NYC EMS) f). sponsorhips and funding led by Dr Narang (Chair of PI-Emergency Dept, LIJ) (13) 12:00 noon. Lunch Break (14) 1:30 PM. The different group leaders presented the results of their individual committees. The AAEMI attendees as a group critiqued these suggestion and proposed modifications. (15) 3:00 PM. The meeting was adjourned. Many of the members
were pleased with the results of our meeting. |
