As part of an ongoing CME program aimed at General Practitioners in the community, Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad hosted Emergency Update on Feb 10th 2002. This bi-monthly meeting, attended by over 400 physicians, was held at the Viceroy Hotel, the future venue of INTEM 2002. Two visiting AAEMI members were invited to speak at the meeting. Dr Kumar Alagappans lecture on Tetanus drew dozens of questions from the audience, and debate about the indications and use of both toxoid and immunoglobulin in the Indian context. Dr Indrani Sheridan gave a lecture on the Management of Drug Overdoses in the ED, which was well received. The meeting was chaired by Dr. K. Hari Prasad who also gave a lecture entitled Emergency Care Can We Reach Global Standards?. Other topics covered included the Role of the Trauma Coordinator in Disaster Management (Dr Suresh David), Pre-hospital Thrombolysis in AMI; and Thrombolytics in Stroke (Dr. Mahesh Joshi). Both Dr David and Joshi are on the organizing committee for INTEM 2002. The highlight of the session was the official launch of Indias first universal emergency access number, 1066. Guest of honor, Mr. Krishna Reddy, Mayor of Hyderabad gave his full support and emphasized the importance of this service to the citizens of Hyderabad and in future, all of India. |
