President's Message 2009
Dear Friends and Colleagues, I would like to thank all of you in your support of the American Academy for Emergency Medicine in India (AAEMI). In our eight short years AAEMI has become an internationally recognized organization. This is because of your support! I would also like to thank our immediate Past President and Vice President Dr Lingappa Amernath and Dr Anita Bhavnani for their hard work and dedication over the past 2 years. During their term we had two conferences, Chennai in 2007 and Salem in 2008 and numerous other projects by fellow members have been started under their term. On December 5th, 2008, we had a gathering at the Bhukara restaurant in NYC. Nine AAEMI members from five different states presented their work in India over the past several years. The power point presentations that evening were informative, enlightening and inspirational. The enthusiasm and dedication shown by the many presenters was obvious to the packed room of people. Many of them were not that familiar with AAEMI, but by the end of the evening we had a few more new members! It was a proud moment for all of AAEMI. This year 2009, will be ever more challenging. With terrorism, disasters and general emergencies becoming more common in India, we need to support our colleagues there in these difficult times. AAEMI will continue to partner with the Society of Emergency Medicine, India (SEMI), we will continue to support their conferences and others when we are invited, and we will continue to develop Emergency Medicine projects in India. The SEMI president has informed me that EMCON 2009 will be held in Guwahati in November 2009. If you would like to participate, please contact me directly as we will soon have to set up education committee. (Details to follow) I look forward to your continued support in improving emergency medical care in India. Wishing all of you a Happy and Healthy New Year. Kumar Alagappan, MD
