President's Message 2007
Lingappa S. Amernath, M.D. - President 2007

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

First off, I hope you all are having a happy New Year. 2007 is another year, and opens the opportunity for more progress.

I’m also honored to be your president this year. I would like to take this chance to thank all the AAEMI members for their continued support of our goals.

The first thing I’d like to do is to convey my appreciation on behalf of AAEMI towards our former president, Dr. Indrani Sheridan, for the excellent job and also for her efforts in collaborating with EMRI and promoting emergency medicine in Hyderabad. Also, it is my pleasure to deem INTEM 2006 at Delhi a grand success. Thanks to the entire international faculty who took time off from their hectic schedules to lecture at the conference. Furthermore, it was fruitful for AAEMI and ACEP executives to meet Dr. David C. Mulford, the United States Ambassador to India, at the consulate in Delhi. He has assured us his support in our endeavors in India.

Currently, in India, there are less than 200 physicians trained in Emergency Medicine, providing care for 1.2 billion people. Therefore, we have a long way to go before our goals turn into reality. We are still continuing our goal to get Emergency Medicine recognized as a specialization of Medicine in India, as well the provision of the said emergency care to the general population. For this to happen, we must not only involve private institutions, but also government teaching hospitals and universities that care for a large percentage of the population. Although we may not reach our goal this year, or the year after, we will do our utmost to see this through.

I would like to wish everybody a very prosperous and successful year ahead. Again, I would like to thank you all for your contributions towards this goal.

Respectfully yours,

Lingappa S. Amernath, M.D.
President, AAEMI
